Major Accomplishments of Ballet Kelowna
Founded in 2002 and presenting its fifth year of performances
throughout BC, Ballet Kelowna has
experienced tremendous success.
- Through its fiscally responsible practices, Ballet Kelowna has remained a financially
sound and well managed company since inception.
- An Endowment Fund was established in 2005 with Central Okanagan Foundation as
a commitment to our future.
In two years, the fund has grown to $60,000.
- Ballet Kelowna enjoys a widespread reputation performing high quality dance in BC.
- Ballet Kelowna has diversified its audience base each year - from 7 performances in six communities
in its
first year to more than 50 performances, 13,000 people and 25 BC communities annually.
- Ballet Kelowna provides career opportunities for aspiring Canadian dancers employing six talented
dancers for 34 weeks yearly to train,
rehearse and perform a diverse repertoire.
- Artistic Director, David LaHay, has commissioned four emerging Canadian choreographers to
set new works on Ballet
Kelowna. Often this is their
first opportunity to work with trained professional
ballet dancers en pointe.
- Ballet Kelowna presents special student educational programmes for grades K to 12.
This introduces 1,600
students annually to this art form,
demystifies ballet and highlights the relevancy of dance.
