Gweneth Lloyd & Betty Farrally, founded the Canadian School of Ballet (CSB) in
Winnipeg in 1938 and one year later, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. In 1959, they
"retired" and brought the CSB to Kelowna. They mentored today’s CSB
directors - Lori Larson & Mel Brown. Through their vision, and with the support
of Myles & Stephani Bruckal, Ballet Kelowna was founded in 2002 with David LaHay,
Artistic Director.

LaHay has developed a company of six professional ballet dancers who now
tour a diverse repertoire. More than 50 performances annually in communities
throughout BC, has garnered Ballet Kelowna the reputation as the cultural
ambassador for the City of Kelowna.

Ballet Kelowna is growing artistically and continues to be financially sound. Through the creation of new works by emerging Canadian choreographers together with a commitment to the classics, they have forged a unique artistry hailed throughout BC.

Being the province’s only professional ballet company outside the Lower Mainland and the only touring company serving more than 25 communities throughout the BC interior is an expensive proposition. Strengthening our foundation as we build for the future is essential.

"We are increasingly recognizing that creative expression and participation are powerful means of building healthy and resilient communities, from neighborhoods to nations."
– Assembly of BC Arts Councils
